Syphilis
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum which is passed from mother to child during fetal development. To diagnose syphilis, the Treponemal antibody test which detects the presence of antibodies to Treponema pallidum bacteria is the key. Rapid Immunochromatographic Test is used in the detection of antibodies to Treponema pallidum and Rapid Plasma Reagin test (RPR) is used as a confirmatory test service as recommended in National Guideline for Syphilis Testing: Laboratory Manual for Diagnosis and Monitoring by Bangrak STI Center, Division of AIDS and STIs, Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health; 2021
